The way she is simultaneously endearing and tough and incredibly smart and independent reminds me of Star Wars’ new heroine Rey. Melissa Landers brings her alive in a way the lets you feel Solara’s hard exterior that resulted from years of loneliness and suffering while simultaneously letting you see her gentle, caring inner self. Solara is so REAL, and so multi-dimensional, and so NOT a cookie-cutter female main character in any way. My favorite aspect of the book is definitely the characters. If you liked any of the above, you will positively love Starflight. Billed as Overboard meets Firefly, Starflight totally lives up to the promise of that hilarious now-classic amnesia movie and the awesomeness that was Firefly… but with healthy doses of Pirates of the Caribbean and a little Guardians of the Galaxy thrown in for good measure. I will probably keep right on smiling like a fool for quite some time as I relive the fantastic story that just unfolded before me. –Sci-Fi Romance at it’s Pirate-Adventure Best!-–Ībout an hour ago I finished Starflight and I am still smiling. Here is my original Amazon (and Goodreads) review. Remember “Overboard”, the 80’s movie with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn? I loved that movie! Starflight, a Sci-Fi Romance by Melissa Landers, is billed as cross between Overboard and Firefly, and wow does it ever deliver.
